Sara Schreiber, a seasoned voter turnout operative, has been appointed the chief of staff for Joe Biden’s campaign. This move comes as the campaign gears up its staffing efforts at headquarters and in crucial battleground states. Schreiber, who most recently led the progressive nonprofit America Votes, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the team.
The decision to bring Schreiber comes in response to concerns raised by Democratic officials and strategists who feel the Biden campaign has been slow to expand its in-state infrastructure, especially compared to previous presidential reelection campaigns. Several anonymous Democratic operatives in battleground states have expressed worries that the sluggish hiring rate could hinder the campaign’s overall performance, including developing a coordinated organizing program, voter protection initiatives, and recruiting junior staff.
However, the Biden campaign has made significant progress in recent weeks. Notably, key hires have been announced in Nevada, Michigan, and South Carolina, demonstrating a commitment to strengthening operations in crucial states. Wisconsin has also seen a slate of new staffers, including Devin Remiker, executive director of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, who will serve as Biden’s state campaign manager along with Garren Randolph, and Tanya Bjork, a seasoned Wisconsin operative, will join as senior advisers.
While the campaign has yet to announce staff appointments in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, Democratic operatives in those states anticipate additional hires soon. The campaign is actively working to assemble a diverse, talented, and dedicated team fully equipped to secure President Biden’s and Vice President Harris’s reelection.
Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden’s campaign manager, expressed her confidence in Schreiber, stating, “We’ve been building a diverse, talented, and dedicated team ready to reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris, and Sara embodies the experience, grit, and relationships that are needed to mobilize and reach our coalition to win next November.”
With Schreiber’s appointment and the ongoing efforts to expand staffing, the Biden campaign is demonstrating its commitment to assembling a solid and efficient team that will work tirelessly to secure victory in the upcoming election.
