A Stone Mountain, Georgia, Chick-fil-A employee fought off an armed robber who was threatening to shoot him. The would-be burglar confronted Kevin Blair after he broke the drive-thru window and climbed in.
Blair was told he was “going to die” unless he unlocked the Chick-fil-A’s safe, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department. Blair opted to fight because he was unsure of the combination to the safe.
He also said the thought of his kids being without their father gave him the strength to live.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 1. Surveillance footage captured the battle in the kitchen area. The two men fought over the pistol. A key moment in the fight was when Blair managed to strip the assailant of his mask, making it easier to identify him.
Throughout the struggle, Blair tried to make the thief understand that he didn’t know how to open the safe, but the assailant insisted that if he didn’t, he would kill him. Blair thought that if he was going to get shot, he wasn’t going to make it easy. He went toe-to-toe with the gunman and traded blows, blocking kicks and punches, all the while trying to keep the pistol pointed away from him. That was his primary concern.
Even after Blair knocked the gun away, the fight continued. Knowing he wasn’t getting the upper hand and without his gun, the robber fled out the back door.
Blair has been an inventory specialist in the fast food business for more than ten years, 2.5 of which were spent at the Stone Mountain branch.
