To help pay for his mom’s burial, an 11-year-old Georgia boy held a heartbreaking sign.
45-year-old Shannon Mount had a cardiac arrest on July 8.
Billy Upton, who was Shannon’s boyfriend, did cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on her until paramedics came. She was on life support for ten days until she finally succumbed to her illness.
To help pay for her burial, her eleven-year-old son, Kayden Ely, stood for two days subsequent to the train lines in their little town of Lindale.
With the proceeds from his hot dog sale, the 11-year-old intended to pay his mother her proper funeral expenses.
An onlooker at his “Please Help Bury my Mama” placard decided to spread the word about his appeal on social media.
The dedication on a GoFundMe page created in her memory explained that Shannon did not have life insurance.
In addition to leaving contribution jars around town, they have sold beverages and hot dogs on the side of the road.
They have already received $12,880 through their GoFundMe page, which is more than their $7,100 target. They have said that any extra contributions would be used to cover Kayden’s future expenses.
Everyone she met, from friends and relatives to strangers, felt the profound love and caring of Mount.
After his mother passed away, Kayden’s cousin took up caring for him.
Shannon’s recollections center on the fact that she was a caring person who went out of her way to help others she didn’t know. She was always willing to provide a hand to those in need, even while she was on the go and never quite settled down. To paraphrase her obituary, “She felt at home everywhere and nowhere” due to her nomadic personality.
On July 27, the chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home will host Mount’s funeral.
Whether it is for clothes, education, or college—anything over the amount contributed for the burial will go to Kayden.
