Media Veteran Alice Stewart Found Dead Outdoors at 58

Alice Stewart, nee Fraker, a former Republican strategist and current CNN political analyst, has passed away at the age of 58.

Authorities discovered Ms. Stewart’s body outside in the elements in Northern Virginia early Saturday morning. Police theorized that she was experiencing a medical emergency, but they wouldn’t specify why.

Alice Fraker came into this world in Atlanta on March 11, 1966. Gerald, her father, sold furniture, and Carolyn Bestedt, her mother, was a nurse. She attended the University of Georgia and graduated with a degree in political science and broadcast journalism.

Before becoming a news anchor in Little Rock, Arkansas, Stewart worked as a producer and reporter in her hometown of Georgia.

She began her political career as the communications director for former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign and continued in a similar capacity for two other Republican contenders, including Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Ted Cruz.

Shortly before Donald Trump formally became the Republican presidential candidate in July 2016, she relocated from Little Rock to Virginia after being recruited by CNN.

Since the presidential campaign, Stewart has been a conservative pundit on the cable news network. Her previous experience included stints with many Republican presidential campaigns.

Ms. Stewart made her last appearance on CNN on May 17th, on an episode of “The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer.”

She is survived by Eric, her brother, and two sisters, Andrea Schwind and Heather Thompson.

In a note to team members, CNN’s chief executive, Mark Thompson, praised Ms. Stewart, calling her a political veteran and an Emmy Award-winning journalist who brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage.

In 2020, Ms. Stewart was a fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School and served as Arkansas’s deputy secretary of state.

Stewart likes to go for runs when she has spare time. She was a regular social media post-race photographer, sharing images from events, including last month’s Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Mile and November’s TCS New York City Marathon.

Concerning her death, currently, there is no suspicion of foul play.
