PolitiFact’s MAGA-Meter: Tracking Trump’s Promises

As the 2024 election cycle gains momentum, PolitiFact has introduced a new tool to help voters navigate Donald Trump’s campaign commitments. The “MAGA-Meter” aims to assess and track the former president’s promises throughout his campaign and second term. This initiative mirrors similar evaluations conducted for Barack Obama, Trump’s first term, and Joe Biden’s presidency.

The MAGA-Meter will employ five ratings to gauge promise development: Stalled, In the Works, Promise Kept, Promise Broken, and Compromise. These ratings will be based on measurable outcomes, providing voters with a clear understanding of Trump’s progress on his commitments. To qualify for tracking, promises must be made by Trump himself during the campaign period.

Donald Trump’s second-term agenda encompasses a wide range of policy proposals, some of which have raised eyebrows for their ambitious nature. Among the key promises are mass deportations, implementing tariffs on North American allies, tax cuts, and a pledge to end Russia’s war with Ukraine. The former president has also proposed shutting down the Department of Education, expanding the death penalty, and defining gender at birth.

“Upon my inauguration, I will immediately terminate every open borders policy of the Biden administration. We’ll carry out the largest domestic deportation operation in American history,” Donald Trump said.

In addition to his more traditional policy proposals, Trump has made some unconventional promises that have caught the attention of voters and pundits alike. One such pledge is to promote research into flying cars, showcasing the former president’s penchant for headline-grabbing initiatives.

“I think when companies come in and dump their products in the United States, they should pay automatically, let’s say a 10% tax,” Donald Trump said.

Trump has also already followed through on pardoning January 6 protesters and has shifted his position on TikTok, now opposing a ban and expressing a desire to “save” the app, marking a departure from his previous stance.

Let’s see what PolitiFact does when their tracker shows that Trump fulfilled ALL of his promises.
