Republican Criticizes Kamala Harris and Biden in RNC Speech

At the Republican national convention in Milwaukee on July 17th, the Republican congressman from Texas Ronny Jackson attacked Kamala Harris, the sitting Vice President. Jackson claimed that Kamala Harris was unfit to serve as the president in the event Biden should step down, claiming that she possessed questionable personal character and was just as poor of a candidate as Biden. Jackson said that while Biden may be cognitively unfit, he indirectly claimed Harris was morally unfit for the office. Jackson talked about his military service, and also about his 14-year tenure as White House Physician. He claimed he could now say that he served a president who “took a bullet” for his country as he served Trump, who was nearly assassinated at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13th.

Many prominent Democrats have called for the 46th commander-in-chief to resign following his disastrous performance on the debate state on June 27th. Biden appeared cognitively impaired and struggled to respond to the host’s questions. Trump emerged as the stronger candidate, and following the debate, record numbers of Americans declared that they believed Biden was not mentally up to the task of serving as president. A poll by CBS claimed that 72% of respondents expressed sentiments that Biden was not fit to be president.

Biden is facing mounting pressure. Chuck Schumer allegedly advised the president it would be best if he stepped aside, while Nancy Pelosi also claimed a Biden candidacy in November would hurt Democrat’s chances of taking back the house. Additionally, the House minority leader Hakeen Jeffries also expressed a lack of confidence in Biden, and even former president Barack Obama has failed to weigh in on the issue, declining to comment about Biden. Publicly though, Biden maintains he has the delegates and is the nominee of the party. If Biden ends his re-election bid, he will have to do it on his own terms before the national convention.
