According to Sam Smith, the singer was so hobbled by a terrifying skiing accident earlier this year that they couldn’t walk.
After working on mental problems for the previous seven months following a rescue from a ski slope after tearing their ACL, the 32-year-old singer returned to rehearsals.
Sam was given the news that the damage was permanent, and they were understandably worried and decided to “get their s**t together” because of it.
Sam was spotted strolling about New York City in January with a cane and boot on their foot, but they have yet to discuss the issue.
During their first interview on the terrifying event, Sam said on the Sidetracked podcast that they had spent the past seven months concentrating on their mental health due to his ACL injury.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is located in the space between the bones of the knee and aids in jumping and springing. They chose not to have surgery when it tore severely, but it was excruciatingly painful and left them unable to walk for a month. They were gaining some weight, and for the first time in their life, they were unable to move. Their nerves were frayed. They felt they needed to get their act together.

Sam will play at the BBC Proms again next month despite the injury.
Smith has been know to wear provocative costumes onstage in a number of their recent concerts, which have sparked controversy. In 2019, Sam came out as non-binary and asked that people refer to them using they or them pronoun.
They will be the headlining act on August 2 as part of this year’s BBC Prom, which is an extension of the pop program.
It follows more than a hundred Ofcom complaints over “devil worship” and an intense kiss during Sam’s racy 2023 BRITs performance.
Sam took inspiration from the devil costume that angered viewers at the Grammys the week prior—the one with the horns poking out of the top hat—as they played the song.
Last year’s Gloria tour also caused controversy, as some fans felt it was inappropriate for a younger demographic.
Although some may question the suitability of Sam’s Proms performance, Radio 3 director Sam Jackson has stated that what you’ll see is a performance that is entirely appropriate for the Proms and altogether appropriate for the audience in attendance.
This will be the last chance to see Sam Smith perform live in the UK this year, so naturally, all eyes will be on their music and the distinctive orchestral arrangement.
Florence + The Machine frontwoman Florence Welch will also be performing at the event, performing songs from her 2009 album Lungs, which won a Brit Award.
Jules Buckley, a Grammy-winning composer, and his orchestra will accompany her onstage on September 11.
