Trump, Harris Reportedly Reach Agreement on Debate Rules

Former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump announced on August 27 that he reached an agreement with Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris on debate rules. The conservative leader wrote on his Truth Social account that the deal was essentially to have the first debate between the two politicians with the same rules that were already offered to US President Joe Biden before suspending his campaign.

Some political analysts described the announcement as a victory for Trump, as many reporters were saying over the last few days that the Democratic nominee had been pushing for some changes to the debate rules. One of the most important changes her campaign was apparently looking for ways to prevent the microphones from being muted when the other nominee was talking. That rule was originally made during the first presidential campaign of President Biden after his campaign insisted on it. He said back then that the rule was important as it wasn’t unfair that one of the presidential nominees couldn’t deliver his answers and remarks because of the rival’s interruption.

In his post, Trump said he reached the deal with the Democratic Party, which he referred to as a group of radical leftists. He also said that the first debate with Harris will take place on September 10 and will be aired on ABC News, which he said was the “most unfair” and “nastiest” newscaster in the United States. He added that the event will be hosted in Philadelphia, with the same rules as the last time he debated with President Biden. He said he feels satisfied with the rules, as he said that the debate didn’t go well or the liberal leader, whom he described as “Crooked Joe.”

The former commander-in-chief also said in his post that one of the most interesting aspects of the debate with Harris is that none of them could bring any “cheat sheets” or notes, which he suggested would affect Harris’ performance. The conservative leader added that the network promised him and the vice president that the debate was going to be as equitable and fair as possible, and guaranteed that none of them would receive questions in advance like in previous debates. Trump claimed that while the Harris campaign didn’t agree with the September 4 date that Fox News offered to host a debate, he said he would be prepared for that day as well as he knows that Harris usually “Flip Flops.”

The battle between the two nominees seems more competitive than ever, as some pollsters have shown Trump with a lead while others have said that Harris is currently the favorite to win the election. However, political analysts said that the fact that Harris has been part of an administration where the president has been dealing with some cognitive issues could eventually affect her popularity.
