Over the last several years the political situation within the United States has become increasingly volatile and turbulent. In the 2016 presidential election, the business and real estate mogul from New York City Donald Trump achieved a remarkable upset victory over the Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton. Since then, a deepening divide has emerged between progressives and conservatives on the American political spectrum and even a class divide has become more prevalent with affluent urban communities tending to move to the left while more rural and blue collar areas moving to the right. This is no surprise, as the American middle class has been struggling for decades, and the wealth gap between the rich and the poor only continues to widen. Inflation continues to cripple average Americans, and home ownership has been deemed nearly impossible for median households earning around 70,000 annually.
Average income has fallen for yet another year, and things continue to look increasingly difficult economically for average Americans. Unsurprisingly, nearly half of people in a recent survey claimed that the American dream was dead. Some 45% stated it had once held true but does not any longer. And nearly 20% stated that it never held true at all. It is clear for any casual observer of American politics and culture to see that the state of American society is rapidly worsening and that serious moral and economic problems are engulfing the country at an increasingly ominous rate.
The 2024 presidential election appears to be a rematch between Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden which first occurred in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. As of now, many polls show a dead heat between the two, as both men are quite unpopular. Donald Trump recently stated bizarrely that he is considering a rally in New York City. Trump is hoping that the migrant crisis at the border has impacted voters in the deep blue city.
