When AI Homework Help Goes Hilariously Wrong

In a world where technology seems to have an answer for everything, one California dad discovered the hard way that artificial intelligence might not be the academic panacea he hoped for. Alan, a well-meaning father from Orange County, thought he’d found the perfect solution to his son Jacob’s homework struggles: Samsung’s AI assistant, Bixby. But what transpired next was a comedy of errors that would make even the most patient parent pull their hair out.

Jacob, a third-grader in dual English and Spanish classes, often brings home word problems that leave his parents scratching their heads. With the best of intentions, Alan turned to Bixby for help with a particularly tricky math question. What could possibly go wrong? Well, just about everything.

AI’s Comedic Response to Human Homework

As Alan attempted to explain the problem to Bixby, the AI seemed to be having an existential crisis. “I didn’t understand that,” Bixby repeated, channeling the confusion of students everywhere. But the kicker came when Bixby, in all its artificial wisdom, suggested, “Perhaps you should get human help for human homework.” Oh, the irony! It’s as if the AI was trying to unionize against after-hours tutoring.

“Hey Bixby, can you help me with this puzzle?” Alan is heard to ask at the start of the clip. “I didn’t understand that,” comes the reply. “Can you help me…” Alan begins to ask again only for Bixby to cut in with another “I didn’t understand that.”

Julieta Meza, Alan’s partner and Jacob’s mother, found the whole situation so absurdly funny that she couldn’t help but film it. And thank goodness she did, because now we all get to share in the hilarity of AI’s homework rebellion. Eventually, Bixby did manage to provide some YouTube links for solving the problem, but by then, the damage to Alan’s tech-savvy reputation was done.

Sure, it’s funny…but are we sleepwalking into a catastrophe with this insane technology?
