Mary Trump has celebrated a recommendation that former Trump attorney John Eastman be disbarred. Judge Yvette Roland issued a ruling in March saying the California State Bar should revoke Eastman’s license following a filing it made last year. The organization sought to disbar Mr. Eastman, accusing him of making “false and misleading statements” during the tumultuous 2020 Presidential election and its aftermath.
Ruling that Mr. Eastman was guilty of misconduct, and in consideration of “aggravation and mitigation,” Judge Roland’s final recommendation was disbarment. She also said the California State Bar should issue a $10,000 fine. Eastman said he intends to appeal.
Donald Trump’s estranged niece took to Twitter to call for yet more Trump associates and attorneys to be punished. “Now do Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, Mike Johnson, and all of the other lawyers,” she wrote.
Reports indicate that Eastman spearheaded the “false electors” scandal that followed President Trump’s 2020 defeat, and he is considered the ringleader behind attempts to persuade former Vice President Mike Pence to participate in attempts to overthrow the result.
The State Bar furthermore accused him of contributing to the riots of January 6, 2021, through speeches he delivered on the day. The Judge dismissed this, however, saying the Bar had not proven culpability.
Judge Roland said Eastman had shown no remorse for his alleged law-breaking, which she argued signaled that he “may engage in further unethical conduct” in the future.
Mr. Eastman’s attorneys described the ruling as “Orwellian” and insisted he had a duty to act in President Trump’s best interests and a First Amendment right to speak as he wished.
The former President’s niece is one of his most outspoken critics and wrote a book in 2020 calling him a “narcissist” who threatens the American way of life. In “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” Ms. Trump said her uncle has a fragile ego that needs constant boosting.
